Workplace Search overview

Understand how Workplace Search brings content from other systems into Interact's search, and choose between native and custom connectors.

Workplace Search makes content that lives in other systems findable from within Interact. Instead of sending people off to SharePoint, Google Drive or a service desk to search separately, you index that content in Interact so it appears alongside intranet results.

Note: Workplace Search was previously called Enterprise Search; you may still see the old name in some URLs.

How it works

You connect a source, Interact indexes its content on a schedule, and the indexed records become searchable — subject to permissions, so users only ever see what they are allowed to. Results can appear in general search and in content widgets on pages.

Two kinds of connector

Native connectors are built and maintained by Interact for common systems. You configure them without writing code. Available native connectors include:

Start with Native connectors for the overview and Getting started with native connectors for setup.

Custom connectors let you index content from any other system by pushing records to Interact through an API. Use these when there is no native connector for your source. Start with Custom connectors and Set up a custom connector.

Permissions and relevance

Whichever connector you use, indexed content respects access rights: see Connector permissions. You can refine what appears and how it is grouped with filters and taxonomy aggregations and surface results on pages with content widgets.
